(from WATE News) One of the largest gun stores in the country is now open in East Tennessee. Buds Gun Shop & Range is next to Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville.
The retail side opened in late July, and crews are now putting the finishing touches on the gun range.
“I came in looking at some guns and they let me try the gun simulator. It was really neat to have real life situations that you can go up against,” said customer Norton Samples.
Samples lives in Dandridge and says he’s glad to have the gun shop close to home.
“I’ve already bought two guns since they’ve opened.”
“The response has been great. We’ve opened the doors and had a lot of good support, not just from the locals, but from people coming through on vacation here,” said store manager Travis Ferguson.
Ferguson said the original Buds Gun Shop opened in Kentucky about 10 years ago. The Sevierville store is the first franchise.
“43,000 total square feet of nothing but guns, ammunition, indoor range, puts us as one of the largest in the country,” Ferguson said.
He says they sell and rent a total of about 1,200 different guns, and they’re getting ready to open a 23,000 square foot indoor firing range.
“We’re going to not have a lot of restrictions on what we’re going to be offering. A lot of time you go into a range and you can shoot pistol only. We’ll have the option of shooting rifle and pistol.”
The range is set to open in about a month. They will also offer gun safety and education classes.
