Rick Laney, President and CEO of Rick Laney Marketing, discusses the Travel Channel’s move to Knoxville on WATE (ABC) News.
From WATE News: The Travel Channel is relocating from its offices in Maryland to the Scripps Networks Interactive headquarters in Knoxville.
“It’s great for the city of Knoxville,” said Rick Laney, President and CEO of Knoxville’s Rick Laney Marketing.
Scripps said in a release Wednesday the shift will allow the network to benefit from deeper resources.
Most of the employees of Travel Channel’s offices in Chevy Chase, Maryland, will relocate to Knoxville while a few will move to New York City. Government affairs, digital and legal functions will continue at the Maryland office.
“Anytime you have more creative industries like television production, moving here it certainly impacts that whole artistic culture and the whole artistic community in East Tennessee,” said Laney.
Scripps purchased Knoxville-based Cinetel Productions in 1994 and launched HGTV shortly thereafter. Scripps’ Knoxville headquarters opened in 1995.
